SSL HOW TO :: APACHE TOMCAT SSL CERTIFICATE INSTALLATION

Installing a SSL Certificate on TOMCAT

In order to install your certificate, you will need to log in to your server on root account, because you must be able to make changes to TOMCAT's configuration files, and restart the TOMCAT server process.

  • Save your Certificate as mydomain.pem, where mydomain is the FQN (common name in your certificate).
Save the Root Certificate and Intermediate Certificate as root.crt and intermediate.crt.

  • Import the certificates in the KeyStore used to generate your CSR (bellow named MYkeystore).
  • Import Root Certificate:
keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias root -file /file_path_to/root.crt -keystore MYkeystore
    Import Intermediate Certificate:
keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias INTER -file /file_path_to/intermediate.crt -keystore MYkeystore
    Import Your Certificate:
keytool -import -alias Your_cert_alias_name -file /file_path_to/mydomain.pem -keystore MYkeystore
    IMPORTANT:
"Your_cert_alias_name" = name assigned by you to certificate when generating your pivate key and CSR!

  • Edit server.xml ("$JAKARTA_HOME/conf/server.xml"), in order to set your SSL listen port from 8433 to 443, or other port, as you need!

  • Restart yor Apache TOMCAT server.

  • Test your instalation. Open in your browser the address https:// myDomainName:myPort.
